Performing Arts Festival Awards Announced by PAFE
For the 25th Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside, there will be four named awards, awards for the best in each of the five divisions, and both First Place and Second Place awards in each of the sixty-nine classes.
Josephine Bryant Memorial Award in Piano
This award is given by the Eastside Music Festival Foundation to honor the memory of Josephine Bryant, a pianist who founded the Eastside Music Festival in 1952. Piano students entered in the Festival who are in grades 9 to 12 are eligible. The award is given on the basis of excellence in performance and musicianship. The selection will be made by the adjudicator of this group.
Edgar Borup Memorial Award in Strings
This award was established in 2007 by the Eastside Music Foundation to honor the memory of Edgan Borup, a violinist and dedicated board member of the Eastside Music Festival and of PAFE. String students entered in the Festival who are in grades 9 to 12 are eligible. The award is based on excellence in performance and musicianship. The selection will be made by the adjudicator of this group.
Michael Mitchell Memorial Award in Voice
This award honors Michael who served as the Voice Music Administrator of the Seattle Opera and who died tragically in 1992. He was a featured columnist for the magazine Opera America and a mainstay at the Seattle Opera.
Helen Jensen Memorial Award in Voice
Helen Jensen was a Past President of the Seattle Opera and the Seattle Opera Guild and a former PAFE board member who died of Cancer in 2005. This award is given to the outstanding student in the opera music class as determined by the vocal adjudicator.
Best in Division
These awards of $100 each will be given to the student each adjudicator determines to be the outstanding student he/she has worked with during the Festival. There will be three awards to piano students, one for a violin/viola student, one for a cello student, one for a harp student, and one for a woodwind student.
Certificates
Each participating performer will receive a Certificate of Participation. In addition, there will be a First Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention Certificate given for each class. The First Place certificates will be presented at the Recognition Concerts and the other certificates will be presented at the Festival following the adjudication of each class.
